Evolit's SmartTOS terminal operating software has been introduced at Montan Terminal Kapfenberg. All forklift, container and wagon movements are managed and organized using this tool.
Founded in Kapfenberg at the end of 1973, Montan Spedition is a logistics partner for the heavy, basic materials, and montanistic industries, primarily serving its customers with multimodal transport solutions. These are environmentally friendly, as they are almost CO2-free, and combine the advantages of road transport with those of rail. The required transport containers, which can be transported both on truck bodies and on rail wagons, are all proprietary developments and are called MOntan COntainers. They are known under the brand name "MOCO." The MOCO fleet currently includes more than 1,400 units, making Montan Spedition one of the largest raw materials logistics companies in Europe. Combined transport (road-rail-road) saves 80% CO2 compared to pure road transport and enables a very simple transition from road to environmentally friendly rail. Loading and delivery ("first and last mile") are carried out by truck units, but the actual transport is handled by rail. Thus, neither the shipper nor the recipient require any investments or infrastructure adjustments to transfer transport to rail. In 2007, the Montan Terminal Kapfenberg opened in the heart of Styria's heavy industry and has since become the gateway to the world for the regional economy.
On Friday, September 20th, 2024, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Montan Spedition with 250 guests! A big thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone!

The investments made at the Montan Terminal Kapfenberg in recent years are remarkable. A multi-million euro expansion of the terminal took place in 2023 and 2024 of in total 12.000 m2. The terminal was comprehensively expanded with 12.000 m2 and includes 12 new bulk good boxes for the storage of primary and secondary raw materials and 300 hybrid container depot spaces for 20, 30, and 40 ft containers. Ground sealing of the built-up area was minimized by using strip foundations. A total of around €20 million has been invested in infrastructure, additional MOCO units, and new equipment in recent years.
All signs point to growth. Montan Spedition is committed to preserving a healthy environment and will continue to pursue this path consistently and successfully in the coming years.
The MOCO-Bulk-ROOF with Sliding Roof for fast Opening and Closing while Loading and Unloading!
The MOCO-Bulk-ROOF is a 30 ft Open-Top and Rear-Open-Container that can be loaded and unloaded from 2 sides. Goods can be loaded into the MOCO-Bulk-ROOF either from the top (Open-Top) or from the rear (Rear-Open). This container innovation is therefore primarily for the transport of loose bulk goods and craneable goods that are loaded and unloaded from the top (e.g. using a crane). The main areas of application of the new container are raw material logistics, e.g. the transport of loose bulk goods, as well as the transport of goods that can be craned, such as steel and metal goods.
The great innovation of the MOCO-Bulk-ROOF is its sliding roof, which can be opened and closed again quickly and easily. The sliding roof is made of high-strength but light aluminum and consists of 3 individual segments that can be moved using their own movement mechanism. This mechanism works with wheels that run on rails. In order to open or close the MOCO-Bulk-ROOF, the three individual elements are easily and effortlessly pushed into the desired position with pull straps and anchored there. When opening, the individual segments are simply pushed into each other and pushed apart when closing. The straps also serve as a locking mechanism that works in the same way as conventional lashing straps.

The MOCO-Bulk XL especially for voluminous (eg scrap) or very fine-grained (eg minerals) bulk goods!
The MOCO-Bulk-XL is a 30 ft Open-Top and Rear-Open-Container, which can be loaded and unloaded from 2 sides. Goods can be stuffed into the MOCO-Bulk-XL either from the top (Open-Top) or from the rear (Rear-Open). Thus this container can be applied for the transport of bulk goods, cranable goods and materials which are loaded and unloaded from the top (eg by front loader or crane) or by forklift from the rear. The main applications of the container are the metal-scrap-logistics (ferrous and non-ferrous-scrap) and the transport of mineralic raw materials as gypsum and lime.
Montan Spedition presents a world first, the MOCO-Triple!
This is a special version of the proven MOCO-Bulk. The MOCO-Triple is a 30 ft-OT (Open Top)-Container for the transport of heavy bulky goods like ores for the steel industry. It can be stacked 3 high while transported on rail when it's empty. Due to the low height of the MOCO-Triple, the maximum transport height ("High-Cube") is optimally utilized. Therefore also unpaired material flows can be offered due to optimized pre-leg-costs and so new markets and relations can be developed.
