GO WEST MOCO - SUPER-WEST-CONNECTION

22 January 2026

GO WEST MOCO - SUPER-WEST-CONNECTION - NEW MULTIMODAL DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE WEST

Montan Speditions GmbH, the specialist for combined transport throughout Europe with locations in Kapfenberg and Fürnitz, presents an absolute innovation in the transport market in 2026: a new multimodal direct connection into the West to Duisburg and Rotterdam. Block trains will connect the Linz container terminal with Duisburg twice a week and with Rotterdam once a week. In addition, there will be daily local services to and from Kapfenberg, Vienna South, and Villach South, allowing goods to be loaded onto the block trains. Each round trip will consist of 19x four-axle container wagons, each offering 38 x 30-foot container spaces for the company's own MOCO (MOntan COntainer) fleet. This new multimodal connection is primarily aimed at companies in the heavy goods, recycling, and mining industries that ship bulk goods, craneable goods, or heavy palletized goods. Combined MOCO transport saves 80% CO2 compared to pure road transport and enables a very simple switch from road to environmentally friendly rail. Loading and delivery ("first and last mile") are carried out using trucks, but the actual transport is handled by rail. Therefore, no investments or infrastructure adjustments are required at either the shipper's or the recipient's end to shift transport to rail.

The trains of the new Super West Connection are less than 400 meters long and therefore comparatively short. They can thus easily bypass or circumvent all current construction sites on the German rail network. This makes the new Super Connection particularly attractive, as it guarantees on-time and fast transport at competitive prices.

GO WEST MOCO is the current motto of Montan Spedition. This fast and CO2-neutral rail solution is offered at attractive prices and is currently the only direct multimodal connection between the Linz metropolitan area, the Rhine-Ruhr region, and Rotterdam, thus connecting the largest heavy industry centers in Western Europe. More than 50 years Montan Spedition

28 March 2025

Founded in Kapfenberg at the end of 1973, Montan Spedition is a logistics partner for the heavy, basic materials, and montanistic industries, primarily serving its customers with multimodal transport solutions. These are environmentally friendly, as they are almost CO2-free, and combine the advantages of road transport with those of rail. The required transport containers, which can be transported both on truck bodies and on rail wagons, are all proprietary developments and are called MOntan COntainers. They are known under the brand name "MOCO." The MOCO fleet currently includes more than 1,400 units, making Montan Spedition one of the largest raw materials logistics companies in Europe. Combined transport (road-rail-road) saves 80% CO2 compared to pure road transport and enables a very simple transition from road to environmentally friendly rail. Loading and delivery ("first and last mile") are carried out by truck units, but the actual transport is handled by rail. Thus, neither the shipper nor the recipient require any investments or infrastructure adjustments to transfer transport to rail. In 2007, the Montan Terminal Kapfenberg opened in the heart of Styria's heavy industry and has since become the gateway to the world for the regional economy.

On Friday, September 20th, 2024, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Montan Spedition with 250 guests!
A big thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone!

To help us remember this special occasion for years to come, here are some impressions from the grand celebration:
